Acceptance of Terms
By using VIN Decoder ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Description of Service
VIN Decoder provides vehicle information decoded from NHTSA's public database. The Service is provided in both a free tier (with daily lookup limits and advertisements) and a paid Premium tier.
Data Accuracy
Vehicle data is sourced from the NHTSA vPIC API. We make no warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of this data. NHTSA data may be incomplete for some vehicles, particularly older models or imports. Do not rely solely on this service for safety-critical decisions — always consult official manufacturer records and a licensed mechanic.
History Reports, Auction Information and Insurance
History report purchases take place on external provider websites. Snap.VIN does not currently resell or fulfill third-party reports. Provider coverage, prices, delivery, refund and license terms apply. Only upload reports you are permitted to store, and do not upload confidential third-party information without permission. Uploaded contents and their VIN association are user-supplied and unverified. PDF validation is not malware scanning.
Automatic historical Copart/IAA lookup is not connected. Missing auction or title records do not prove a vehicle was never damaged. Curated known-issue matches identify model-level manufacturer information, not an individual defect or guaranteed warranty eligibility. Insurance information is educational, not an insurance quote or a prediction of your premium. Always confirm with the manufacturer, report provider, independent inspector and insurer before purchase.
Free Tier
Free users receive 10 VIN lookups per day, identified by IP address. Attempts to circumvent this limit (e.g. rotating proxies, automated scraping) are prohibited and may result in IP bans.
Premium Subscription
- Premium subscriptions are billed monthly and renew automatically.
- You may cancel at any time from your Dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds are not issued for partial months, except where required by applicable law.
- We reserve the right to change the Premium price with 30 days' notice to subscribers.
Prohibited Use
You may not:
- Use the Service for automated bulk VIN lookups or resale of decoded data.
- Attempt to scrape, crawl, or systematically download data from the Service.
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service.
Intellectual Property
The Service's code, design, and branding are owned by ARC Technologies LLC. Vehicle data is sourced from NHTSA and remains the property of the U.S. government.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that NHTSA data will be accurate or current.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ARC Technologies LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the Service.
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
